We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded funding by Awards for All Scotland to re-open the De’ils On Wheels cycle workshop.
Check out this great wee film about the Kingsway Court Community Garden. The film was put together by the Kingsway Eye film group and is about the community garden open day that took place to celebrate the opening of the garden and the completion of the new path. The path building project was funded by the North West Open Space and Environment Group environment grant and was coordinated by the Health & Wellbeing Centre and supported by ourselves, the Concrete Garden, Depot Arts and The Coach House Trust Alderman Road.
The majority of the path building work was undertaken by international volunteers who were taking part in the Xchange Scotland programme. The film features some well-kent faces including our very own Frank MacMaster!!
We started out on a beautiful sunny day, from the very new Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre, at 11 am on Friday 5th August 2011 and come rain, shine, sleet, snow but not ice, we have been walking ever since.
There were seven of us including Heather Macleod, Glasgow Walks Coordinator. Over the year and a half HoS Walking Group has been in running, 65 walkers have taken part in our expeditions, although not all at once.
The photographs show us at the Community Centre and walking along the old railway. Walking is a great way to discover more about what is in your local area.
The most important thing about our walks is that walkers have fun and enjoy each other’s company.
As part of our monthly newsletter (you can subscribe here) we have a section
called Friend Focus where we highlight the great work that is being undertaken by one of the many organisations that we work with.
Our February Friend Focus features LINKES, a small but very effective project based up in Knightswood.
We are delighted that we have been selected by the University of Glasgow Settlement to participate in their Find a Solution programme.
Each year 3 organisations are selected by the Settlement to receive two full time student placements for 8 weeks during the summer.
