It’s that time of year again as we emerge from the dark and cold of Winter (which has not been too bad this year!) to the green shoots of Spring!
And as the days get longer and the umbrellas and hoods come down you can start to see your environment around you again and sometimes what you see is not as good as it could be!
So what can we do to help tidy the place up a bit? Well one option is to get involved with Keep Scotland Beautiful’s National Spring Clean campaign.
The campaign, which was re-launched in 2007, has made a significant impact – in 2011:
- a total of 97,237 volunteers – 13,569 more than in 2010 – took part in 1,538 events across Scotland between 14 March and 16 May.
- using litter pickers and gloved hands, each person collected on average one and a half black bags of waste – that’s equivalent to 90 double decker buses or enough to fill 145,855 street litter bins.
This year the campaign runs for two months from 1 April to 31 May so there’s plenty of time to get invovled.
DRCET are keen to work with other local organisations in Yoker, Scotstoun, Whiteinch and beyond to help organise clean ups across the community. If you are interested in working with us please contact the office on 0141 433 0427.
