As part of our new monthly newsletter (you can subscribe here) we are including a section called Friend Focus where we highlight the great work that is being undertaken by one of the many organisations that we work with.

This month’s Friend Focus is Glasgow Wood Recycling (GWR), which is a social enterprise and charity established in 2007 and committed to reducing the amount of wood needlessly going to landfill by finding creative ways to recycle and reuse this valuable natural resource.

They produce a range of environmentally friendly home and garden reclaimed wood products, sell a wide range of reclaimed timber and they also collect wood waste from homes and businesses. Through these activities they provide volunteer and training opportunities to local people, as a practical way of tackling poverty and social exclusion.

DRCET have worked with GWR on various projects over the past few years including the Heart of Scotstoun Community Garden and the Camstradden Community Garden in Drumchapel.

Peter Lavelle, GWR Project Manager, says,

“Working with lots of community partners, not least the Dumbarton Road Corridor Environment Trust, we have been able to support a number of environmental improvements and food growing projects.

We very much welcome feedback or the opportunity to investigate new ways of working or involving more people e.g. how to expand usage of our sizeable workshop at our quiet times.”
