As part of our monthly newsletter (you can subscribe here) we have a section called FMP900439454riend Focus where we highlight the great work that is being undertaken by one of the many organisations that we work with.

This month’s Friend Focus is a big season’s greetings to all our friends that we have focused on throughout the year!

Back in May, in our first ever eNews, our first Friend Focus was on Glasgow Wood GWR_LogoRecycling a social enterprise which recycles and reuses wood. In addition to their two fabulous summer and winter woodstock events GWR have recently been awarded funding from the Santander programme for a Sales and Marketing person who will help them to do more great business!

Then in June we featured Alderman Road Community Gardens which is part of The Coach coach_house_trustHouse Trust. There have been a few changes in staff up at Alderman Road and Tim and Colin are now the people doing great work up there . If you still need a Xmas tree you might be able to still get one from them but you’ll need to hurry!

In July we focused on the Kingsway Court Health & Wellbeing Centre. We had lotsKingsway_Logo of fun in September at the Kingsway Court Gala Day, which was run in partnership by GHA and the Centre. The community garden is going from strength-to-strength with some fabulous produce grown this year. And we are already planning some exciting projects with the Centre for next year so watch this space! Also four of the blocks have been completely refurbished on the Kingsway estate and next year should see the demolition of 10 and 20 blocks and the start of the proposed re-development, although the full planning application is still to be submitted.

In August we featured Anniesland College and we continue to run the food waste project with Annieslandthe College. They recently got planning permission for the final phase of the campus re-development which will see the sports pitches created at the back of the building and which will ultimately include a dedicated space for the Rocket composter. The other big news from the College relates to the merger between Anniesland, Cardonald and Langside Colleges, which should be completed in time for the 2013/14 academic year.

Our September Friend Focus was Heart of Scotstoun which is a project we have been involved in for many years and which is where our office is located. We published a progress report earlier in the year and we are stilHoS_logol working away at transferring the Centre from DRCET to HoS. Further progress with the community garden has been made and the first bits of produce from the garden appeared in the Autumn! Recently we had a stall at their Christmas table top sale which helped raised funds for our work!

The October issue featured the West and Central Voluntary Sector Network – we are an GWCVSN Logoactive member of the Network and we have attended their speed networking events. We have also helped to establish a more local network of members along the Dumbarton Road Corridor so we can understand each organisation better and look towards closer working in order to provide greater benefit to the people and communities that we serve.

Our final Friend Focus of the year in November was the Yoker Community Campus. They have regulYoker Campus Logoar sessions of the DRC Youth Project and a new nail bar now operating from there. We are currently developing a small project around healthy eating and local food with the Campus. We also held our AGM there back in August!

So Season’s Greetings to all our Friends from 2012! Many thanks for all your hard work and support throughout the year and we look forward to continuing to work with you in 2013!
