As part of our monthly newsletter (you can subscribe here) we have a section LINKES Smallcalled Friend Focus where we highlight the great work that is being undertaken by one of the many organisations that we work with.

Our February Friend Focus features LINKES, a small but very effective project based up in Knightswood.

LINKES is a community project and a registered Scottish charity, operating in Knightswood. They get their name from ‘Lincoln Avenue’ and ‘Kestrel Road’, the streets which surround the multi-storey flats where they are based.

They take a Community Development Approach to their work. They respond to expressed needs within the community by providing various in-house services, working in partnership or by signposting people to other organisations and agencies. They are interested in capacity building and they support local people to develop their skills, experience and knowledge to benefit the wider community. They are also interested in integration and this remains a focus of their work as part of the West Integration Network.

Their main work is in hosting and providing a weekly programme of groups including: Women’s Group, Play Sessions, Youth Work (via Glasgow Life and A+M Training), Senior’s LINKES_YouthProjectLunch Club, English Language Classes (via Glasgow Life), Mother and Toddlers group and Welfare Advice (via DRC Generations).

They also participate in and/or coordinate a number of community events to celebrate: International Women’s Day, Refugee Week, Knightswood Gala, Black History Month, 16 Days of Action and St Andrew’s Day.

Last year LINKES participated in the University of Glasgow Settlement programme, which we will be involved in this year!
