Tomorrow we will be attending the Social Enterprise Exchange at the SECC, the worlds biggest event for social enterprises and social entrepreneurs.see-strapline There will be over 900 delegates attending the event, over 150 organisations exhibiting in the Business Zone and over 20 social enterprises will be providing goods and services, including all the catering for the event.

So what is a social enterprise? Social Enterprises are businesses operating in markets – usually selling goods and services –  whose primary objective is to achieve social and environmental benefit. Importantly any rules governing the social enterprise will include the requirement that profits are reinvested in the business or in the beneficiary community and, if the social enterprise is wound up, then the assets are re-distributed to another social enterlogoprise or charity.

Although we’ve been in existence since 2004 we have only been selling our services for the past two years and so we are an emerging social enterprise. As part of our commitment to being a social enterprise we have signed up to the social enterprise voluntary code of conduct which has been developed by Senscot on behalf of the social enterprise sector in Scotland

We are able to attend the event courtesy of a bursary from the Glasgow Social Enterprise Network (GSEN). One of the purposes of GSEN is to help deliver the Social Enterprise Strategy for gsenGlasgow which “sets out our route map towards the development of a more vibrant and sustainable social enterprise community in Glasgow” and they have recently launched their new website www.gsen.org.uk

We are really looking forward to attending this years Social Enterprise Exchange catching up with old friends, meeting new ones and being inspired by the amazing work that social enterprises are doing around the world. So if you are coming along we hope to see you there! We will also be helping out on the GSEN stand at some stage during the day so if you see us then please say hello!!
