Times Square – before and after

In a radical move the section of Dumbarton Road from the Clyde Tunnel in Whiteinch to the city limits in Yoker is to become traffic free and handed over to pedestrians and cyclists.

Having been inspired by the recent re-developments of Times Square in New York City the decision has been taken to re-develop approximately 2.5 miles of Dumbarton Road. In Times Square the repurposing of congested, vehicle-laden streets into pedestrian-only public spaces was hugely successful, leading to dramatic increases in foot traffic, revenues for local stores and a decrease in traffic related injuries.

The work is being undertaken by world renowned Danish company Aprilsnar, who have a proven track record of developing such projects.
