20141029_Visit_Garden05Recently we hosted a study visit for 23 students from Glasgow Kelvin College. The students are currently on the 1 year HNC Working with Communities course and they were looking to learn about community development in practice.

We met up at the Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre for a short presentation and discussion about DRCET, how we started, what we currently do and some of the challeneges that we face.

We then went on a site visit to the Kingsway Court Community Garden, Kingsway Court Health and Wellbeing Centre and the De’ils on Wheels community bike workshop so the students could see and hear from some of the projects and partnerships we are involved with.

The purpose of the visit was for the students to learn:

  • Knowledge of a community based project which provides innovative services within the community and addresses contemporary environmental issues
  • An understanding of the range of partnership working carried out by the Project
  • An understanding of the nature of the funding challenges for the Project
  • An understanding of how the Project links to Community Learning and Development practice.
