RecentlyIMG_20150708_Neilston_BagMap we popped over to Neilston in East Renfrewshire to visit Neilston Development Trust and their walking and cycling project – Go Neilston!

After some dodgy weather earlier in the day it turned in to a beautiful evening and a great way for a double celebration –  Neilston Development Trust being in their Hub for 3 years and the National Cycle Network (NCN) Community Tour arriving in Neilston to celebrate 20 years of the NCN!

There was a great turn out at the event and lots of different activities for people including bling your bike, free Dr bike checks and lead cycle rides around Neilston to see some of the improvements to the cycling infrastructure.

IMG_20150708_Neilston_CycleInfoAs you enter The Hub there is a really great information display with lots of leaflets and useful information on walking and cycling in the local area.

The event also saw the launch of their Cycle Neilston and Beyond booklet which contains 9 rides in and around the local area all starting and finishing in Neilston.

IMG_20150709_Neilston_PublicStandPumpWe went on the lead cycle ride around the town and as part of the improvements to the cycling infrastructure they have had bike pumps and bike stands installed in publically accessible locations. These are robust looking bits of kit and it will be interesting to see not only how well used they are but also how well they stand up to that use. I think these would be great additions to various locations in the west of Glasgow.

It was a great visit and really useful to see how other organisations engage with their communities and deliver their services.

WeGoPedal_logo_webThe visit was part of our West Glasgow Pedallers We Go Pedal project which is in partnership with LINKES and The Whiteinch Bike Club. The project aims to encourage people to cycle more in their communities!
