VolunteerDropInFlyer_CropVolunteers’ Week is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK – and this year it’s taking place from the Wed 1 to Sun 12 June 2016. It’s an opportunity for everyone to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers that make the world a better place.

Here at DRCET we involve volunteers in all the work that we do, and we want to recruit more volunteers. We’re looking for people who are passionate about cycling to become community cycling champions, promoting and supporting bicycle activities in their local area, or to act as commuting buddies, supporting people who are new to cycling with getting to work by bike.

We also want to recruit volunteers across each of the community council areas we cover (Scotstoun, Whiteinch, Yoker, Thornwood, Knightswood, Jordanhill and Broomhill) to promote a range of environmentally friendly actions from recycling to picking up litter – you’ll lead the way and encourage others to join in.

We’re also looking for local people to join our Board – if you are interested in cycling or in improving the local area and would like to help develop DRCET then we’d like to hear from you.

If you’re interested in volunteering and would like to find out more then you can join us on Thursday 2 June 2016 from 10.00-11.30am for a cup of tea and a chat at the Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre . Alternatively you can contact Sarah on sarah@dumbartonroad.com for more information. Or download the flyer here Vols week drop in poster

Over 21 million people volunteer in the UK at least once a year and this contributes an estimated £23.9bn to the UK economy. Behind these big numbers is a big contribution.

These 21 million people are a shining example of how we can all make a big difference to individuals and communities every day from improving the environment we live in, spending time with those who may otherwise be lonely and contributing to a range of other essential services and support. Such a big contribution is worth a big celebration!
