SouthCityWayGlasgow has secured Scottish Government backed Community Links Plus funding of £3.25 million pounds for the South City Way cycle route. The project will see an investment of £6.5 million, with £3.25 million coming from Glasgow City Council Capital funding.

Hot on the (w)heels of the South West City Way, the South City Way will add another piece to the development of quality cycle commuter routes in Glasgow and will provide a 2 mile segregated cycle way between Queen’s Park on the Southside to the Merchant City in Glasgow’s city centre. The programme includes significant upgrades on the streetscape  along the route and better services for pedestrians and public transport. You can find out moreon Glasgow City Council’s website www.glasgow.gov.uk/cycling or on Twitter, check for #CLplus!

Interestingly South City Way will cost £6.5 million pounds for 2 miles of cycle way compared to the M74 extension which cost over £650 million for 5 miles – a staggering £130 million per mile – that would buy 100 South City Ways!!
