byresrdcorners_headerThere’s a new Byres Road coming…funding of £9m has been allocated through the Glasgow City Region Deal to make Byres Road better for people.

There will be a public launch of the Byres Road Corners project on Thursday 23 February at 7pm where we will ask people to re-imagine how the street could be.

The council’s Regeneration and the Economy Committee considered the results of public consultation, which resulted in a number of key findings:

  • Support for full street redesign, with improvements benefiting groups such as cyclists and pedestrians
  • Enhance the pedestrian environment, with improved surfaces, reduced street clutter and pavement seating
  • Safe cycle routes
  • Resources available to allow community involvement in design and programming of events in potential new civic spaces
  • Priority spaces were identified, including Ashton Road car park, Church Street triangle, and corners at Chancellor Street and Great George Street

The workshop will be followed by more detailed public engagement to design each section of the street over the next 18 months and construction will take place from autumn 2018. Yes, it really will happen!

Everyone is welcome to the launch. Please circulate the attached poster! byresrdcorners-launch-poster-23feb2017
