Glasgow is gearing up for a month of cycling as the city launches its first Glasgow and Clyde Cycle Challenge, which will take place throughout May.

And Team We Go Pedal will be taking part! Last year we had 15 cyclists who cycled a total of 1838.8 km and we are looking to beat that this year!

Cyclists are being urged to sign up for the new event, run by Glasgow City Council, and record their routes to help improve the city’s cycling network.

The Glasgow and Clyde Cycle Challenge is about all types of cycling and getting out on your bike. It’s about getting fitter and having fun through cycling. It doesn’t matter if you are just out for a pootle along the canal or if you are out on a training ride or your mountain bike. Throughout May people are being encouraged to try to use your bike that bit more often and log those miles that you do via the Naviki smartphone app.

Taking part in the month-long challenge will help create an accurate picture of how cyclists travel about the city and ensure future investment is made in the right places and the challenge is open to anyone who cycles within the Glasgow and Clyde Valley area.

Everyone who signs up will be entered into weekly prize draws with top prizes from leading cycle equipment manufacturers up for grabs. There will be events and activities taking place throughout May from led rides, themed rides and Dr Bike events.

Routes will be collated into a leader board that will be updated daily and hosted on the new Smarter Travel Glasgow

The challenge runs from May 1 to 31 and cyclists can sign up at any point although organisers would encourage people to participate from day one. To sign up and take part in the Glasgow and Clyde Cycle Challenge, download the Naviki route tracker app and follow instructions. You can select Team We Go Pedal from the list!
