In the past week De’ils On Wheels, our community bike workshop has reached a couple of ‘grand’ landmarks.

Firstly we received our 1000th donated bike, which is totally amazing!

And secondly we reached 1000 likes on our Facebook page!

So we would just like to say a thousand thank yous to everyone that has donated a bike to us or that has liked our Facebook page! Your support is very much appreciated.

One of the donations we recently received was a 1950s Raleigh bicycle which has only had one careful owner! It is great condition and we hope to have it back on the road in the near future! You can check out some of our refurbished bikes for sale here! (And the photo we posted on Facebook has also had over 1000 views!!!)

Also we are really in need of donations of ladies bikes so if you have one you no longer have a use for then please get in touch!

800likes-bikesWell not quite hundreds but there have been a few milestones that are in the hundreds! In the past few weeks the following has happened…

  • DRC Environment Trust reached 300 likes on our Facebook page
  • De’ils On Wheels reached 800 likes on our Facebook page
  • De’ils On Wheels received our 800th bike donation since we re-opened in April 2013
  • De’ils On Wheels collected our 1200th bike from the Council’s recycling centres
  • De’ils On Wheels sold our 400th reused bike!
  • and our blog had it’s 34,000th visitor!!

So lots of ‘hundreds’ achieved! A huge thanks for everyone’s support in making all of this possible!

DonateYourBikeAs part of Recycle Week Scotland and Cycle to Work Day the NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde is running a Donate Your Bike programme to get NHS staff to donate any unwanted, reusable bikes at one of five local hospitals. NHS GGC are working in partnership with several bike recycling projects across Glasgow and beyond including De’ils On Wheels.

NHS staff will be able to donate unwanted, reusable bikes at the following hospitals.

For staff that are unable to donate at the hospital site they can contact the organisations directly to arrange to drop-off their unwanted, reusable bikes – you can download a flyer here NHSGGC_BikeCollection_InfoFlyer – or see the poster below!

De’ils On Wheels is in urgent need of donations of left-handed bikes. We were recently contacted by a local left-handed resident who is looking for a left-handed bike.

Avril Poisson said, When I first learned to cycle I used to be able to ride both left and right handed bikes – I suppose you could’ve call me an ambidextrous cyclist – but as I got older my left-hand began to dominate and I could no longer cycle. I really miss it. I would love to be able to cycle from Glasgow to Paris and visit the Eiffool Tower!”

A spokesperson for British Cycling said, “We have seen a huge increase in cycling in the UK in the past few years and a similar increase in the demand for left-handed bikes. We are also looking at plans to build a left-handed Velodrome to meet this demand.”

So if you have an old left-handed bike that you no longer need please consider donating it to De’ils On Wheels. We don’t get many donations of left-handed bikes and on one occasion we got a rare donation of both a left-handed and right-handed version of a bike which you can see in the photo below. You can also clearly see the differences between the two bikes. And as an added incentive the first person to donate a bike in April will get a special prize!

De’ils On Wheels will also accept donations of right-handed bikes!

DoW_300-donationsDe’ils On Wheels recently hit another landmark when we accepted our 300th donated bike. The childs bike was donated to us by Merry Go Round Glasgow, a children’s charity boutique based on the southside.

20150320_DoW_300-donation_MGRSo if you have an unwanted bike that you would like to donate or you are looking for an affordable refurbished bike then please get in touch. As a Revolve accredited reuse centre you can be assured that all our bikes have been fully checked by qualified mechanics.

In addition to accepting donations of unwanted bikes we also collect bikes from Glasgow City Council’s recycling centres in partnership with other bike recycling projects in the city. To date De’ils On Wheels has collected over 700 bikes from the recycling centres and all partners collecting over 2000 bikes.

Prize-DrawFollowing on from recently receiving our 100th donated bike we are now offering everyone that donates a bike to De’ils On Wheels the chance to win tickets to the Scottish Bike Show.

Every person that donates a bike to us from now until Monday 31 March will be entered into a prize draw to win the tickets.

100bikes-border Last week we reached another milestone at De’ils On Wheels when we received our 100th donated bike since the workshop re-opened last April! The bike, which was donated by a local resident from Kingsway Court, has already had its initial check – the first step on its journey to being back out on the road!

As a wee thank you to the donator of the 100th bike we presented them with free tickets to the Scottish Bike Show which will take place at the Emirates Arena and Chris Hoy Velodrome on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 April.

A big thank you to everyone that has donated a bike to us – and if you have an unwanted bike to donate then please get in touch – we’ll be delighted to take it off your hands!
