Four staff members from local environmental charity Dumbarton Road Corridor Environment Trust (DRCET) and De’ils On Wheels recently Braved the Shave to raise funds for DRCET and the Beatson Cancer Charity.

DRCET staff Neil Lovelock, Liz Dorward, Sarah Burgess and Paul Morrice all went under the clippers at the Brave the Shave joint fundraiser, which was held in late March at the Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre, which also held a cake sale to raise more money.

Neil Lovelock, DRCET Project Manager said,

“The response to the fundraiser has been totally overwhelming and we absolutely smashed our £2000 target – who would have thought a wee bit of hair could have raised over £6000! We are delighted to be able to present this cheque for £3000 to the Beatson Cancer Charity, an organisation which has provided much needed support to us in recent times.”

“A massive thanks to Lu at Battlefield Barbers; all the team at Heart of Scotstoun; to everyone that baked something for us; to everyone that came along to cheer us on; a huge thanks to Paul, Liz and Sarah for helping to turn my madcap idea into a reality and going above and beyond; and of course a huge, huge, huge thank you for everyone that sponsored us – it is very much appreciated!

Kirsty McDonald, Challenges & Community Fundraiser for Beatson Cancer Charity said,

“On behalf of Beatson Cancer Charity, I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks to the Dumbarton Road Corridor Environment Trust for their incredible support and real determination to beat cancer. The Brave the Shave was a brilliant initiative and the funds raised by the team will have a direct impact on patients and families affected by cancer in our community. I would also like to thank everyone who very kindly sponsored and supported the team for all their generosity.”

The Beatson Cancer Charity are determined to beat cancer and committed to securing significant funding to support and enhance the treatment, care and wellbeing of current, former and future cancer patients and their families.

At the end of March four brave members of the Dumbarton Road Corridor Environment Trust (DRCET) and De’ils On Wheels team Braved the Shave by getting their heads shaved to raise funds for DRCET and the Beatson Cancer Charity.

Neil, Liz, Paul and Sarah went under the clippers on Thursday 30 March 2017 to raise funds for these two great Glasgow based charities.

The response to the fundraiser has been totally overwhelming and we have finally collected all the sponsorship money and we raised a staggering £6937 – who would have thought a wee bit of hair could have raised so much!

So a massive thanks to Lu at Battlefield Barbers for amazing clipper control; to May, Marie and Amanda and all the team at Heart of Scotstoun for being fantastic hosts and for selling so many cakes; to everyone that baked something for us on the day; to everyone that came along to cheer us on; a huge thanks to Paul, Liz and Sarah for helping to turn my madcap idea into a reality and going above and beyond; and of course to everyone that sponsored us!

A huge, huge, huge thank you for everyone that supported us – it is very much appreciated!
