IMG_20150327_SimplePleasures Spring is a great time to be getting out and about more and enjoying the simple pleasures in life. That’s just what DRCET and Scottish Natural Heritage are hoping will happen with the launch of the new Simple Pleasures Easily Found map for the west of Glasgow.

The map aims to help connect people with where they live, to where they want to go, to parks, the canal and places of interest. The map is based on a big circuit of roughly 16km/10 miles and shorter routes too, based on great local parks including Victoria Park, Knightswood Park and Whitecrook Park.

The partnership hopes to inspire people to find and explore new green and traffic free routes for local journeys, whether it’s for a walk in a lunch break, a journey to work or the shops or for just getting out and about.

You can download the map here Simple pleasures easily found West Glasgow (pdf, 3MB) and you can find out more about the Simple Pleasures campaign on the SNH website.

If you would like hard copies of the map and some promotional postcards and posters please get in touch.

Check out this great wee film about the Kingsway Court Community Garden. The film was put together by the Kingsway Eye film group and is about the community garden open day that took place to celebrate the opening of the garden and the completion of the new path. The path building project was funded by the North West Open Space and Environment Group environment grant and was coordinated by the Health & Wellbeing Centre and supported by ourselves, the Concrete Garden, Depot Arts and The Coach House Trust Alderman Road.

The majority of the path building work was undertaken by international volunteers who were taking part in the Xchange Scotland programme. The film features some well-kent faces including our very own Frank MacMaster!!

We started out on a beautiful sunny day, from the very new Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre, at 11 am on Friday 5th August 2011 and come rain, shine, sleet, snow but not ice, we have been walking ever since.

There were seven of us including Heather Macleod, Glasgow Walks Coordinator. Over the year and a half HoS Walking Group has been in running, 65 walkers have taken part in our expeditions, although not all at once.

The photographs show us at the Community Centre and walking along the old railway.  Walking is a great way to discover more about what is in your local area.

The most important thing about our walks is that walkers have fun and enjoy each other’s company.
