FoVP_History_TalkA great new series of local and family history talks are being hosted by Whiteinch Library, 14 Victoria Park Dr S, Glasgow G14 9RL

On Wednesday 21 February from 6.30 – 7.30pm join us for a talk about the author of the well-loved books, Tommy’s War and Tommy’s Peace. To celebrate the acquisition of Thomas Cairns Livingstone’s original diaries for the city, archivist Barbara Neilson will introduce the diaries and share their content. Hear about Glasgow during the First World War and how rising rents, the threat of air raids and the war economy affected the city.

On Wednesday 21 March from 6.30 – 7.30pm Friends of Victoria Park member Gillian Mawdsley is giving a second talk on the park’s history. Gillian returns to further explore our memories of Whiteinch and it’s history, looking at local people who served during the First World War. Share your family stories or just come along and listen.

Please book your FREE place on these events by calling Whiteinch Library on 0141 276 0695.

Housed in a refurbished Kelvin Hall in Glasgow, the new National Library premises extend the Library’s reach out of its historic home in Edinburgh.

The development provides interactive opportunities for education, research, entertainment and inspiration.

Visitors will be able to enjoy 100 years of Scottish life on film and video held in the Moving Image Archive, with access to footage that is not available online.

They will also be able to explore the Library’s vast digital collections — including e-books, maps, manuscripts, and reference works – from the earliest times to the present day. Much of this material can only be consulted on National Library premises.

‘Kelvin Hall has been reborn and we are delighted to be an important part of this new leisure and cultural centre,’ said National Librarian Dr John Scally.
