The Festival 2018 Our Place Fund is for community groups to put on cultural events and arts activities within their area before and during the Glasgow 2018 European Championships.

The deadline for submitting proposals has now passed and 69 proposals have been submitted and now everyone in Glasgow has the chance to vote to choose which projects are funded.

You can vote online (see below) and there will also be a Share and Decide event held on Saturday 10 March at Glasgow City Chambers where you will be able to meet the different organisations that have submitted proposals and you can vote on the day before a final decision is made!

October is a proving to be a popular time for AGMs. Two great opportunities to find out more about what’s been happening in your community.

Come along to LINKES at Linkes Community Rooms, 200 Lincoln Avenue G13 3PP with food and refreshments available at 6.30pm on Thursday 12 October 2017 followed by the AGM at 7pm.

Kingsway Court Health & Wellbeing Centre are having their AGM on Friday 27 October 2017 12.30 – 2.30pm at Block 50, Kingsway Court, Scotstoun G14 9SR. A buffet lunch will be served from 12.30 – 1pm before proceedings commence.

LINKES will be holding their Summer Street Party on Saturday 5 August from midday to 4pm. The event will take place in front of the Lincoln Avenue flats in Knightswood.

There will be lots of fun activities including for all the family including a DJ, food, a climbing wall, face painting and much more!

We’ll be along with our pedal powered smoothies. It is free to attend. Come along and join in the fun!

LINKES logo SmallLINKES is recruiting. This is an exciting opportunity to join the busy team at LINKES for a six month maternity cover post. This management role is part-time, 2 days a week, to oversee the smooth running of the project.

LINKES Community Group is working on the frontline of a rapidly changing Glasgow. In the small area it serves there are residents from many cultures and our workload reflects the diverse needs and strengths within the community. LINKES runs groups, events and activities for all local residents.

Applicants must demonstrate relevant project management experience and a commitment to Community Development. All information is available on the Good Moves recruitment website. Deadline Friday 3 March 2017.

LINKES_OppsFair_Aug16LINKES are hosting a Make the most of you! Opportunities Fair at the  Community Rooms on Thursday 25 August from 10am to 1pm.

This information session is open to anyone who wants to learn something new, develop their skills, or is thinking about volunteering or employment, but is not sure where to start.

Everyone is welcome to come along to meet representatives from a range of organisations – including DRC Environment Trust – that can advise them and support them in looking for learning or volunteering opportunities, jobs and training.

BikePolo01At the beginning of May, the Glasgow Hardcourt Bike Polo Association celebrated the beginning of summer by taking a trip to the Isle of Cumbrae. Fuelled with Nardini’s ice cream from Largs, we boarded the ferry with our bikes and set off on the five-minute ocean voyage to Cumbrae. Some of us wild camped and some stayed at the Osprey Centre, and we all cooked delicious food and sat around the bonfire until the morning.

After a quick sweep of the court and some massive bags of stones to secure our goals against the strong wind, we started to play. Bike Polo is pretty much, as the name suggests, polo played on bikes instead of horses. Games are three players to a team and ten minutes long, during which time you can’t touch the floor with your feet. If you do, you have to ‘tap out’ at the side of the court before continuing to play.

LINKES_BikeSale_Header_Jun16As part of the West Glasgow Pedallers We Go Pedal project LINKES are hosting a reused kids bike sale from 10am to midday on Thursday 23 June at the LINKES Youth Club at 160 Lincoln Avenue, Knightswood, G13 3PN. All the reused bikes will be supplied by De’ils On Wheels community bike workshop, a Revolve reuse accredited centre.

There will also be other activities on the day including:

  • Bike breakfast – come along and grab a cuppa and a cake and fruit
  • Free Dr Bike checks – get your bike checked over!
  • Play On Pedals taster session – a free taster session for pre-school kids on balance and pedal bikes
  • Cycling and walking information point – lots of leaflets and advice on how to get cycling and walking more in your community!
  • Bike donation point – you can donate any unwanted bikes to De’ils On Wheels
