20180811_velophonic-orchestra-headerThe spontaneous bicycle where YOU are the orchestra!

On Saturday 11 August 2018 from 10:15 – 11:30am, right in the beating heart of Festival 2018 in George Square, the Velophonic Orchestra will explore the possibilities of using bicycles as instruments: playing on bells, spokes, frames, saddles – you name it. The Velophonic Orchestra is an orchestra that anyone can join!

No previous bicycle-playing experience necessary – just follow the conductors and experience being part of the band as they create a piece of music to celebrate each of the four cycling disciplines of the Glasgow 2018 Championships. There’ll even be a part for non-cyclists!

You can download the flyer here.

In August, the European Championships come to Glasgow and Festival 2018 gets underway – and Children’s Classic Concerts can’t wait to join the celebrations with their Soundcycle projectyou’ll not look at a bike the same way again!

Look out for updates on their Facebook and Twitter pages during the build-up and catch their percussionists as they pedal the streets of Glasgow on special bikes – let’s just say, when Samba meets cycling, it sounds wheelie good!

The Essential Orchestra are stepping up to the podium with the Soundcycle concert on Friday 10 August for sporting family fun and medal-winning performances. It will feature the premiere of a new piece of the same name for bicycle and orchestra by Tom Harrold, performed by world-champion percussionist Colin Currie.
