For the past couple of years Kingsway Court has been going through a serious transformation. 20131016_KingswayDemo03Blocks 30, 40, 50 and 60 have been fully refurbished inside and out and now the external landscaping has been started. At the same time Blocks 10 and 20 have been prepared for demolition which has also started in preparation for new homes being built at the Dumbarton Road end of the estate.

This work is all happening at the same time which clearly causes disruption for people moving about the estate. However it also offers an interesting insight into the past, present and future of the estate.

Yoker Resource Centre and Community Campus community garden is now host to the newest hotel in wpid-IMG_20130809_112646.jpgthe area – the Yoker Bug Hotel – with the grass roofed abode proving extremely popular with the local bug and insect population!

The community garden is in full bloom at the moment with plenty of apples on the trees, strawberries and other vegetables and fruit coming through!

Last week we said goodbye to the international volunteers. The 4 students, who were on the Xchange Scotland international volunteer programme were hosted by the LINKES Project up in Knighimagetswood.

The students were in Glasgow for 6 weeks and they were from Spain, Italy and Germany.

Over the past few months there has been lots of activity in around Whiteinch and Scotstoun to upgStreetlights_Jul13_09arade the street lighting in many streets including Northinch Street in Whiteinch and Earl Street and Balmoral Street in Scotstoun.

The upgrade work has removing the old lampposts and the overhead power cables and replacing them with new state of the art lamposts with LED lighting units as well as burying the power cables.

The Kingsway Community Garden is having an open day this Saturday from midday to 4pm. KingswayGarden_OpenDay_27Jul13There will be lots of fun activities including gardening workshops, the Glasgow Science Centre bodyworks tour and free fruit kebabs and soft drinks plus our very own De’ils On Wheels Dr Bike service. The De’ils On Wheels workshop based up at 40 Kingsway Court has been going through a DoWlogo_white_stackedrefurbishment over the past couple of week. Unfortunately this work has taken us longer than planned and so we hope to back fully open next week. Apologies for the inconvenience this may cause and please bear with us as it will make things much easier for us once the refurbishment has been completed.
