ScotstounCC_logoScotstoun Community Council (SCC)  current committee stands down in October 2017 and that creates 13 places available for election of a new community council.

The election is managed by Glasgow City Council and is open to residents within the area who are 16 years of age or older.  Nomination forms require 2 residents to be recorded as proposer and seconder and the form to be returned to City Chambers (by FREEPOST) by 12 noon on Friday 15 September 2017. The candidate, proposer and seconders’ names must appear on the Electoral Register.

The general purpose of a community council is to find out the views of the residents living in the area, to pass these on to the local and national authorities or public agencies and to take action in the interests of the community.

Current secretary June Mitchell is happy to meet with any interested parties to talk about the process and can be emailed on General info about SCC can be found on  facebook and twitter.

Download the nomination form Scotstoun CC Nomination Form 2017 and pop it in an envelope (FREEPOST address is given on the accompanying instructions). Forms can also be handed in to 40 John Street.

You can also pick up a nomination form and freepost envelope from Heart of Scotstoun Community Centre, 64 Balmoral Street G14 0BL.

logo_eng_boldThis Saturday is International Volunteer Day (mandated by the UN General Assembly) which is held each year on the 5th December. It is viewed as a unique chance for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their efforts and celebrate volunteering in all its many forms.

The focus for IVD 2015 is to recognise the individuals who are engaged in volunteering their time, energies, and skills to change the world for a better future.  Every action, however simple, counts.  Join us in acknowledging people’s participation, engagement and voice, in shaping our communities and the world we want through the spirit of volunteerism.

Find out more at the IVD website and  check out the volunteering page on the DRCET website for information about how you can get involved locally.  We’d also like to take this opportunity to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all the volunteers who help us out at DRCET and everyone who is involved in local groups and organisations, improving our local communities and making the world a better place.

Finally in the words of the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon: “As we mark International Volunteer Day, let us strive to make the most of the power of volunteerism to build a more sustainable world and a life of dignity for all.”
